{"id":409,"date":"2024-04-23T19:22:13","date_gmt":"2024-04-23T19:22:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deside.polarview.org\/?page_id=409"},"modified":"2024-04-27T16:00:45","modified_gmt":"2024-04-27T16:00:45","slug":"destine","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/deside.polarview.org\/?page_id=409","title":{"rendered":"DestinE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2>\n\t\tDestination Earth\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deside.polarview.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Destination_Earth_pillars.jpg\" alt=\"Destination_Earth_pillars\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"548\" width=\"1430\" title=\"Destination_Earth_pillars\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p><strong>What is Destination Earth?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Destination Earth (DestinE) is an ambitious initiative of the European Union to create a digital model of Earth that will be used to monitor the effects of natural and human activity on our planet, anticipate extreme events and adapt policies to climate-related challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Using innovative Earth system models, cutting-edge computing, satellite data and machine learning, Destination Earth will allow its users to explore the effects of climate change on the different components of the Earth system, together with possible adaptation and mitigation strategies.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, DestinE will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support the prediction of both natural disasters and man-made environmental damage with high precision.<\/li>\n<li>Enable the continuous and accurate monitoring of the health of the planet by focusing on the effects of climate change, for example on the oceans, water, Earth&#8217;s ice caps, land use etc.<\/li>\n<li>Allow us to better understand the socio-economic effects of climate change and the occurrence of extreme natural disasters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ESA is responsible for the DestinE Open Core Service Platform, a user-friendly platform that will rely on the most comprehensive and sophisticated space-based observation data, including data from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Observing_the_Earth\/FutureEO\/Earth_Explorers_ESA_s_world-class_research_missions\">ESA&#8217;s Earth Explorers<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Observing_the_Earth\/Copernicus\/The_Sentinel_missions\">Copernicus Sentinel series<\/a>, data from ECMWF and, over time, other major data holdings in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>For more information see: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Observing_the_Earth\/Destination_Earth\">https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Observing_the_Earth\/Destination_Earth<\/a><\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Destination Earth What is Destination Earth?
